Locks were designed to secure anything either by just locking the thing directly or putting it inside something or place and locking that thing or place with the lock. The sole purpose of a lock was to lock your stuff securely; however, the traditional locks started becoming less secure with time because they were easy to break through or unlock without their key just by using simple tricks. This started the evolution of those simple basic locks into the locks that we have today in our houses. The evolution of locks has progressed sufficiently with the advancement of technology. Today locks are not as simple as the earliest invented lock. They have become more complex in structure only and are equally easy to use like any ancient lock. There is a significant difference in the level of security that an old lock could provide compared to today’s lock. Today’s locks are considerably much secure than traditional locks. With that being said, let’s have a look at the evolution of locks closely:
Padlocks
All the traditional locks are basically padlocks that are locked and unlocked manually with the help of a key. The key is designed specifically for every lock so as it can fit into that particular lock’s combination system and can lock or unlock the shackle which is present on the lock, usually in a U-shape.
Combination Locks
These came after the traditional padlocks and even looked like the conventional padlock. The only difference is that this doesn’t have a key to lock or unlock it; instead, once you press the shackle inside its hole, the lock locks, and to unlock it, you have to set the correct combination of numbers on its number combination system, and once you set the right combination it unlocks itself.
Electronic Locks
Then the locks evolved into electronic locks, which can be locked or unlocked from anywhere in the world. It doesn’t have a key or any number combination; instead, it can be locked and unlocked through any of your gadgets. For the gadget to connect with the lock to lock or unlock it, the lock is either charged manually, or a battery can be inserted in it too.
Passive Electronic Locks
These are a combination of padlocks and electronic locks in this sense that they are electronic but do not need to be charged or anything; but instead, they come with an electronic key that is programmed to unlock your particular lock. You just have to insert it into your lock, and as soon as the key recognizes the lock, it unlocks it. You need to get your key programmed according to your lock from your passive electronic locks provider before taking it home.
